We stepped out of the church to fierce winds and a threatening sky. My favorite moment of the ceremony was the laughter they shared during the lighting of the unity candle with Tyler’s son, Wesley. Stories of family heritage are sort of our thing knowing that they were sharing their first moment of marriage at the same altar where Alex’s parent had stood before… Well, that got us both feeling a little weepy. Most poignantly, Alex and Tyler got married at the same church her own parent’s said their “I dos”. Something old and something new: Alex’s grandmother’s handkerchief and mother’s garter were a perfect choice. Alex’s father placed her grandmother’s cross around her neck, worn by all the women in her family. There were many details of the day, pointing toward a family legacy of marriage. It was clear that what mattered to them both, was that the other one was happy.Īlex began her day, getting ready at her childhood home, surrounded by her best friends.
